There are many different 'national' days throughout the year now - mainly thanks to the rise of social media trends. Usually we don't take take much notice but today is different, today is National Chocolate Day!
This gives everybody here at Carelink24 and all of you at home the chance to have a bug excuse to eat some chocolate. Everybody loves chocolate and to celebrate this tasty day your favourite personal alarm provider has put together a list of our favourites.
Here's our top chocolatey picks:
Yorkie
This writer's favourite bar, along with a few other people in the Carelink24 office. Yorkie is a chocolate bar made by Nestlé, although it was originally made by Rowntree's of York - which is where the bar's name came from.
This chocolate bar has had a controversial past thanks to its "Not For Girls" advertising campaigns. The bar was originally aimed at men. A good example from the 1980's saw Yorkie toy lorries manufactured by Corgi and adverts featuring truck drivers.
The tagline; It's not for girls was then added in 2001 before a special girls version was sold in 2006 - sold in a pink wrapper. This slogan was dropped in 2011 following many complaints.
Unfortunately for fans of Yorkie chocolate the size of the bars has shrunk over the years, including the King Size bars.
Alongside the original you can also eat a Raisin and Biscuit version, whilst there are also honeycomb and dark chocolate editions.
Kinder Bueno
An Italian-made chocolate bar aimed at children but liked by all! Kinder Bueno is a part of the huge Kinder chocolate brand and is a hazelnut cream filled wafer with a chocolate covering.
This child-friendly bar is made in the Ferrero factories of Villers-Écalles, France and Warsaw, Poland. Originally, the bar included an actual hazelnut shell but this was soon dropped due to the target audience of children.
A cool fact about this bar is that Kinder is actually the German word for children, whilst Bueno is the Spanish word for good.
Crunch
A major hit over in the United States that has become quite popular with foodies here in the UK. Crunch is a bar made out of milk chocolate with crisped rice mixed in and is produced by Nestlé.
The Crunch bar was Nestlé's best-selling candy bar in the US back in 1994 and was originally introduced to the market back in 1938 as the Nestlé Bar - which was its name until the beginning of 1994.
If milk chocolate isn't your thing then there is a white chocolate version of Crunch just for you - and just so you know it's just as tasty.
Mint Aero
This is one of the many versions of the Aero Chocolate bar - which was originally manufactured by Rowntree's in 1935. Now made by Nestlé, Aero chocolate is known for its bubbly texture which collapses as the bar melts.
The Mint Aero features a green, bubbly mint-flavoured centre and was introduced in the 1970's.
For those interested, other variations of the Aero bar include Orange, Dark Chocolate, Caramel and Strawberry Milk (Aero Bubbles).
Galaxy
One the the nation's top two chocolates, alongside Cadbury Dairy Milk, Galaxy is a must have milk chocolate! Galaxy, which is a part of the Mars brand, has been manufactured in the UK since the 1960s and has now expanded in to various tasty versions.
Top versions include caramel, Cookie Crumble, Minstrels, Ripple and Honeycomb - all of which are very, very tasty. You can also have Galaxy chocolate in the form of a milkshake, hot chocolate powder, cakes and ice creams!
A fact that you may not know about Galaxy chocolate is that it is actually sold under the name of Dove across many countries worldwide and in continental Europe.
Other picks in the office included Toffee Crisp, Guylian Seashell and Ferro Rocher - I guess we are just chocolate lovers here at Carelink24!
