1. Don’t Look Up
If you want comedy with a helping of social satire, this could be the film you’re looking for. When scientists discover a meteor is headed towards Earth that will wipe out life as we know it, they try to warn the world…only for the media and general public to shrug it off and focus on the next exciting trend. It highlights the problems of our time whilst also provoking plenty of laughs, making it well worth a watch.
2. Monty Python’s Life of Brian
While this film might be a national treasure nowadays, you’ll probably remember how controversial it was to begin with! Did you know that it was banned in Ireland and Norway? A man named Brian is mistaken for Jesus Christ in this farcical comedy, which some have called the greatest comedy film of all time.
3. Beverly Hills Cop
If you like a bit of action in your comedy, you can’t go wrong with ‘Beverly Hills Cop’. This classic Eddie Murphy comedy follows a maverick cop as he heads to Los Angeles to find his friend’s killer. It’s a serious premise, but the writing will give you plenty of reason to laugh as it pokes fun at the cop genre.

If you’re in the mood for something a little more serious, look no further than these drama films on Netflix.
1. Outlaw King
Set in the Middle Ages, amidst the rebellion of Robert the Bruce against English rule, this historical drama offers a balance of introspection and action. With an eye for accuracy, as well as deep character development and a willingness to portray the grey morals of warfare, this is a film that is sure to please fans of Gladiator and Braveheart.
2. The Green Mile
Featuring Tom Hanks and the late, great Michael Clarke Duncan, The Green Mile is an adaptation of Stephen King’s book of the same name. It follows the staff on death row as a new inmate arrives. This inmate is found to have a special power, and they determine he may be innocent of his accused crime. The Green Mile is a deeply emotional film that is sure to leave an impression.
3. The Good Nurse
This is a darker film, inspired by a true story. When patients start to die unexpectedly, a nurse looks to uncover the truth, and discovers that one of their colleagues has a dark secret. This is a horror that will stick with you after watching.
2. Paranormal Activity
This film took the world by storm when it was released in 2007. Its story is told through home security cameras and a handheld camcorder, bringing a new approach to the found footage genre. As the name implies, you can expect a lot of ghostly activity and scares aplenty.
